As we approach the holidays and close out the year, CEO Doug Brien wanted to send a special message to our Mynd owners.
Tune in to hear the highs of 2021 and what’s to come in the new year.
Hi everyone, I’m Doug Brien. I’m the CEO and Co-founder of Mynd. As we approach the end of the year, I wanted to send a short video to say thank you, and also update you on some happenings at Mynd.
2021: Obviously another challenging year with COVID. We spent a lot of time helping to solve problems with our investors and our residents and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made on that front. And that has not stopped us from making a lot of meaningful improvements to our business.
The investor portal: Hopefully you’ve all gotten a chance to log on and check it out. You can now get a lot more transparency into your portfolio than you could before.
We’ve also updated the residents app, because we want to make sure that your residents also have a great experience.
Geographic expansion has also been a big focus of ours. We want to be in all the most investable markets so that you have choices for diversification. In all of our markets, we help our investors buy, finance, insure, and of course, property manage.
All added up, we now manage 10,000 homes across the country, so we’re very proud of that.
Over the summer, we signed two very important partnerships. One is with Invesco. Invesco is one of the preeminent real estate investors in the world, and they’ve partnered with us to buy 17,000 homes for them across the country over the next three years.
QED Investors made an investment in Mynd because they understand the single family rental market, and they believe that Mynd can be a market leader. So they’ve invested in us to help us build out our platform.
Another big focus is in 2021 is ESG, environmental and social governance. I’m sure most of you are aware that 40% of all carbon emissions globally come from the built world, so in the residential rental world here in the U.S., we have lots of work to do.
We also recently sent out a copy of my partner and my’s first book, it’s called The Big Long. It’s all about the evolution of the single family rental industry. It’s kind of a play on Michael Lewis’ book, The Big Short, which is about how we kind of got ourselves into the foreclosure crisis. The Big Long is about how we’ve gotten ourselves out. So, lots of tidbits on real estate investing, funny stories from our last company, Waypoint, and then our ideas about what the industry will look like in the future.
To wrap it up, we wanted to again thank you. We really appreciate you working with us, and we hope you have a great holiday with your family and friends, and we wish you a prosperous 2022.
